3 KEY STEPS TO STAY MOTIVATED AFTER THE NEW YEAR

 

DO WE ALL HAVE TO FAIL OUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS?

 

It’s that time of year… When people make their big goals + New Year Resolutions.  

They’re going to workout more, eliminate sugar, stop swearing, keep their kitchen clean BLAH BLAH BLAH…And in about two months, the majority of those goals will be complete failures.  I know I have made my fair share of failed New Years Resolutions.

So are we all doomed?

NO.  I don’t fail at reaching goals.  Today I share with you my three steps to reaching any goal I set – New Year related or not. PLUS a Guide to Goal Setting!

 

cue 3 keys to staying motivated by yours truly.

STEP 1: DEFINE your END GOAL:

What is it that you want?  It must be different than what you are doing now. Define it.  Make sure it is a good ol’ S.M.A.R.T. goal.  Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and time-based.  There are different renditions of the S.M.A.R.T. goal but this is mine.  I always tell my clients to set themselves up for success by being realistic. If you don’t have time to workout 6 days a week, then don’t make that part of your goal!  SO, first off, make sure your goal is SMART, then remind yourself on the daily.  Do this however you see fit.  

 

STEP 2: Verbally proclaim your WHY:

Having a goal is great. BUT, the goal means nothing without PURPOSE.  Your reason for wanting to reach your goal is what will keep you going day in and day out.

 

STEP 3: Have ACCOUNTABILITY:

We humans are pretty good at justifying our actions or lack thereof {can I get an amen?}…Don’t be that human.  Tell a friend, your spouse, your mom, whoever will keep you on track.  Community and support is a powerful thing my friend.  You will feel like you are not alone in your treck.  Tell them YOUR WHY.  They will help keep you focused on the tough days.  Who knows, you might just inspire them!
