While I am not a full blown “influencer,” I do have some low level experience with affiliate marketing. And it’s something I think a lot of health and fitness professionals want to be a part of. Get some free protein here and there, give your audience a code, make a bit of extra cash. That’s who I am talking to today.
I do not make a sustainable income from affiliate marketing. As you’ll see from the data breakdown below, it makes up, often, 1% of my income.
Now, I’m not one for titles. Never have been.
I feel like many professionals are lumped in with ACTUAL influencers like it’s 50% of what we do, or more.
For me, that’s VERY false. (see below)
Take this post for what it’s worth. You can’t truly “quantify” Influence. I get that.
Not denying my influence, but also giving some transparent insight into my “influencing” from a business standpoint. Because I do think that is important as well. I am not primarily an influencer. Far from it.
Working with brands I love is awesome. I shared brands, books, and resources I loved long before getting paid or compensated for anything.
I’d personally do it either way.
So why not get a kickback?
On the flip-side, plenty of professionals choose not to do any affiliate marketing. And some days, if I am being completely honest, I wish I didn’t either. How lovely would it be to not have to worry about posting, or creating content for anyone else but yourself? Not being restricted by, or tied to the values or ideals of other companies. Ahhhh the freedom. But here I am, still choosing to work with brands.
I don’t think either is inherently right or wrong.
What’s most important is that you’re doing what aligns with and makes sense for YOUR BIZ & BRAND.
What did you expect? Higher or lower % of Annie Miller Concepts Revenue from affiliate marketing (repping brands)?
Also worth noting, I follow and have known colleagues who make 25% + of their income from “influencing”/affiliate marketing. You can certainly optimize that route if you like.
Just thought providing some transparency here might be fun.
