You would think that finding workout clothing for women would be easier than finding normal clothing, but ’tis not the case. Culture runs fitness apparel trends just like every other area of fashion.
We want to feel comfortable, flattering, and not like a stuffed sausage, or a sack of potatoes when working out, right?
To make your life as easy as possible, here are my measurements, and preferences:
I wear smalls or 6’s in most bottoms (4-6 or 26/27 in jeans), and smalls in most tops. I prefer looser fitting tops to smaller fitting tops. And I prefer a more compressive fit in leggings, but also like, need to BREATHE.
The goal is forever to NOT NOTICE your clothing while working out. I avoid pieces that have to be adjusted – no pulling down tanks or shorts, or pulling up leggings. NO. Set that shit and forget it. Aka Annie’s approach to clothing.
P’Tula Leggings – my personal favorite are the stealth leggings. I have them in white, and black. P’tula is often sold out. So get on their email list for new drops or restocks. I wear a small in all P’tula leggings
Athleta Sports bras, Leggings, Joggers & everything… – Elation leggings (I personally prefer the 7/8 length – linked), North Trekki Joggers (have them in two colors) Solace Bra, Exhale Bra – the Elation Bra also looks divine and currently has mix/match straps which is always a win in my book.
Outdoor voices tops and tanks – Fast track tank and Ready set shortsleeve are my personal favs
Lululemon Align & Wunder Train Leggings – they change things so often, I can’t. Just stick with these two lines.
Lululemon for tanks – Love lulu tanks and sport bras as well. But Athleta sports bras are softer IMO – Fav tank is Cropped Training Tank Top (you’ll see it in two different colors in my youtube exercise demo videos.
For longer tanks I normally look at Dicks Sporting goods. Best high neck long tank I’ve found is from Reebok. They don’t currently have it, but they always have longer, flattering tanks.
Dicks Sporting Goods is another place I search for shorts over 5″ long. The ones I am wearing in the video below are Brooks Women’s Chaser 7″ Shorts. I am constantly looking for shorts that can move with me, don’t ride up, but also don’t make me look like a middle school boy playing basketball.
Also found two pairs of Nike training shorts over 4″ – Nike Women’s DriFit Training Short (they are SUPER comfy and move with your body super well without riding up.
I am not claiming I know everything or anything about clothing. But Lord knows I have been lifting weights for 15 years and the struggle to find clothing that fits, functions and flatters without showing all the goods is A TASK.
I hope this post was helpful for even a single item of clothing! Godspeed.
