Struggling to prioritize your training as your business grows is normal. Many of us enter health and fitness careers through our own personal love for the process. For me, that was lifting weights and conditioning. You’re your own guinea pig, and your training might be your way of creating content in the beginning. All of this is typical. But with building a business grows, those six day per week workouts might take a back seat.
It’s easy to let it slip: to work 12 hours per day. I, and every entrepreneur I am friends with, have, during some season, completely let their training go in order to fill those hours with work. I GET IT. And frankly I don’t shame it.
I basically trained on and off for a solid 2 years of building my biz. Even took a quarter or two completely off. That was just my reality with working and building a business, and the demand that came with it. YES – sleep > training. And a piece of my health took a back seat. I’m not condoning it. I’m saying it’s normal, and happens from season to season.
BUT – I do wish I would have prioritized movement and been less “all or nothing.” If I couldn’t follow a strict program I wasn’t training at all. That’s a foolish approach to longevity and health (as you know if you’re a coach). In the 4-5 months leading up to the end of 2021 and even early 2022 before getting pregnant, I was reminded of how powerful four hours per week of training can be for my personal life, mental health, physical health and productivity in my business. Go figure.
Even if it’s not PERFECT or the frequency or intensity you’d like, entertain what positive effect consistent movement might have on your biz (or work career, or being a parent, or whatever).
We can’t train in the same season forever. Know your season, and adjust training accordingly.
So I’m curious – in building your biz, what happened to your training? Where are you at now with it?
