10 Fitness Truths you need to know…
First off, I reserve the right to change my mind. Always. On all topics. As I grow, learn, gain experience and have conversations, I stand pretty firm on some things. Yet also reserve the right to change my mind.
I think it is fairly common to gravitate towards and have firm viewpoints and philosophies when starting anything new. That rigidity provides structure and understanding. But as we become more comfortable, we take in new information and are okay questioning if what we previously stood firm on, is in fact worth standing firm on. That’s what today’s post is about. That natural progression applies to fitness, like anything else.
Now, we only know what we know. And that’s all we have to draw conclusions from. So in my YEARS (almost decades) of being physically active and recovering from injuries, and coaching other humans, these are things I have changed my mind about and/or questions that have caused me to pause.
Though I don’t love it, I have always leaned towards black and white thinking – drawing stiff conclusions and moving on. My profession (strength and conditioning) has forced me time and time again to question why I think, practice or support a methodology. I am forever grateful for that. The curiosity of science.
There is still so much we don’t know about the human body and how it grows/adapts to training stimulus. Keep an open mind, ask questions, be okay with not having all the answers…or, even changing your mind. #educatedgains
