This irks me from a biz and fitness standpoint and I’m not very quick to empathize when I hear it. Every time I hear “I’ve tried everything” This is what I really want to say (though I don’t).
HAVE YOU THOUGH? Have you been consistent, WITH EVERYTHING? Did you do all the things, and grind through the plateaus?
Part of fitness, nutrition, life, entrepreneurship is being able to stick with it even when we can’t see the fruits of our labor yet.
In Atomic Habits, James Clear talks about an analogy that I LOVE.
The short version: An ice cube sits in a room at 26 degrees. Even though the temperature rises to 27, 28, 29, 30, there is no change to the ice cube, yet work has been done.
The room IS WARMER. Yet we can’t see the progress, the effect. Not until it surpasses 32, 33, 34 degrees. Then we begin to see the work done from 26-31 degrees.
The same goes for literally anything. More often than not, the answer is to stick it out and remain consistent even when we can’t see/feel the desired result. I’d rather go a little a longer, and know that I was consistent and adhered to a plan. Then I can say, it didn’t work. I legitimately tried it and did not get the desired result.
THEN, then we can say “the plan/tactic didn’t work for me” not “I didn’t work for the plan/tactic.” And hey, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes we don’t get the result. Or the tactic doesn’t work for us.
But if we fully committed and implemented, then at least we have sound data and can move forward accordingly.
Make sense? Makes sense.
