It’s time to stop procrastinating.
I am unsure what percentage of humans suffer from self-caused procrastination, but I’d guess it’s most. That guess in based on interactions I’ve had with other homosapiens. And today I’d like to offer some solutions based in tough love.
I got pretty frustrated a few weeks back. Between clients and conversations in my DMs I saw an overwhelming theme of procrastinating. I just wanted to scream “OMG You’re making this harder than it needs to be! Just fucking do it!”
That of course did not make it from my thought dome to my mouth. But it’s worth discussing with my larger audience. So here we are.
Procrastination is the topic of this post. But more specifically procrastinating with NEW tasks, or ventures. The events and scenarios we make out to be much more difficult and scary than they are in reality, or need to be. Essentially, we give the negative, not-guaranteed outcome far more power than it deserves. And that keeps us stuck in procrastination.
Now I ask:
What if you just took a pic of the sky, said “good morning” and posted it to your instagram stories? It’s a start.
What if you just shared your weekly reflection in a news letter? Or polled your audience to see what type of email they’d open? It’s a start.
What if you just recorded the video on your phone? Instead of stressing about quality. It’s a start!
What if you just set up a google form for your 1:1 application instead of a sales page? It’s a start!
What if you just googled “how to add a voice over to a reel?” It’s a start!
We CLEARLY tend to make things far more complicated and difficult than they are. I believe the difference between those to make progress and those who remain where they are, spinning in circles, is one’s ability to start small, and learn along the way.
Don’t make things bigger, scarier, harder, or more complicated than they need to be.
More often than not, the worrying is a waste of time. Time you could have spent doing + learning. Here’s your permission to just start in the simplest way you can think of. Cheers.
