If you own an online business, you’re likely on social media. And that means you put out free content. With the way social and search based content is headed, you may want to entertain getting comfortable with creating VIDEO. Not only video, but what’s called “face to camera” video. You, looking at, and speaking into your camera.
It’s all the rage. And sounds simple enough in theory. But it’s very easy to screw up.
Allow one, simple, trick to level up your face to camera videos:
LOOK AT YOUR CAMERA NOT YOURSELF.
I am sorry. And also I am not sorry. I always encourage my business clients to create content + sell from the mindset of a consumer. As a consumer I LOATHE when people are looking at themselves in video content.
The goal of creating face to camera video is for the consumer to feel as though you are speaking to THEM. It’s why you look into the camera lens vs at the display screen.
This little tip also keeps you from being distracted by, or caring what you look like. Just keep your eye on the lens, and share your piece.
You cannot play these, they are screenshots of videos on instagram, but YOU GET IT.
Now, you can never unsee it. If you didn’t swipe, SWIPE to compare. You’ll be watching stories and be like…LOOK AT ME JANET!!! WHO ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!
If you want to look at yourself, fine. But I’ll be swiping along. It’s a me thing. But hear me out – when you’re the creator, it is lovely to not be distracted by yourself. Because you’re focused on the camera and teaching/talking. Not analyzing your mouth and eyelashes. Mmmmk?
And if you are guilty of this, you’re not alone. It’s fine. Honestly, who knows if anyone even notices (besides me). I just want better for us, you know?
Lock eyes with that camera and do your thing. Tell ‘em Annie sent ya.
