the blog
In 2014 Instagram was nothing but a single photo and witty caption. Now, it has combined the features of YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok and other apps. That makes creating content on Instagram VERY hard to keep up with.
Swipe for my audience responses...I was not at all surprised.
▪️75.8% of my audience subjectively stated that they spend most their time on this app in their stories.
▪️14.4% said feed
▪️8.7% said Reels
▪️1.1% said IGTV (2 votes were accidental LOL).
We can put so much pressure on ourselves in regards to feed posts while *most* people spend the majority of their time elsewhere. Now, this is just MY audience. You’d need to look at your own numbers. I also tend to get more eyes on my stories than feed posts. But that isn’t everyone’s case.
1. Stories are my shit. I love them. They’re easy. And people are there. So they take priority always. Instagram stories are also where we can expedite “know, like and trust” with our audience. It’s where we become more human as a brand, I believe. It’s also where people can easily direct message us. Again with expediting the para-social and interpersonal relationships.
2. Feed posts = multiuser content. It lives forever on your feed, building a portfolio. It also allows for repurposing – either on IG, or in emails and blogs.
3. People share feed posts to their stories far more than people share stories to their stories. Posts and reels (both in feed) have far more “sharability” than stories.Sharable = exposure.Exposure = more potential for GROWTH (if you’re looking for that).
For me, I prioritize:
Daily stories
4-6 feed posts per week
2-3 reels if I have them batched. If not, I’ll bust out a graphic or photo and we’re good. What does this look like for you? Or do you need to ask your audience?
