Clearly it is no longer 2011 and times have drastically changed in the digital world. With that, blogging is not dead. But there are two truths that need to be made clear. Especially for this post.
1 | It’s a LONG GAME.
2 | This post is NOT about being a BLOGGER (where your income is literally through brand deals and ads on your blog page, or a subscription base).
This post is regarding building a blog as a way to build your audience or supplement other content on social media for your online business where by you generate revenue through YOUR OFFERS.
So is a blog needed? Or nah? Benefits of a blog (in my eyes) for someone who creates content on other platforms:
▪️It’s YOURS (IG can end tomorrow, TikTok is volatile – your site platform ending? Less likely).
▪️It gets people to YOUR SITE – from somewhere else, be it Google, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest etc.
▪️It provides a searchable place for all your content to live (ease for audience). I adore that if someone on social media, or a client asks a question, I can say hey, go search “x” on my blog and you can find “x” posts about the topic. This is possible on search based platforms like YouTube or Pinterest as well.
▪️SEO (search engine optimization). Every blog post is another opportunity for someone to find me through the goog! That is huge, and a diversifying stream of traffic to my site (IG, google, Pinterest).
▪️Possible monetization (either through sponsors, membership route, or affiliate links).
▪️Can simply turn IG posts or other content into blog posts (repurpose content).
Really the only downside is TIME. It will take extra time and you’re likely not BUILDING an audience via your blog. So no. I don’t think a blog is needed nor do I think it’s the best way to build an audience online. But, there are certainly benefits in the long game equation. Thoughts!? Let me know below
