How to Build Your Brand Social Media Code of Conduct with Annie Miller

What goes and doesn’t go on your social accounts? What’s a hard yes and hard no? This is your social media code of conduct and something we define clearly in my FitsPRO Foundations course.

Social media is a weird place. Especially weird when you’re developing a personal brand – which is the case for many online health and fitness professionals. We’re lumped in with the term “influencer” and “content creator.” While those terms aren’t entirely false, they aren’t why we’re on social media. We’re on social media for our BRAND AND BUSINESSES. So, I think it’s imperative we act as such, to not confuse our audience and potential customers.

I have my standards. But also, you don’t need to do these things to build a PROFITABLE health and fitness business online. That’s the point.

Post upper body lifts from behind – truly, your prerogative. It’s simply not necessary for business.

Post reels pointing at words – no hate. It can absolutely be effective and work. It’s simply not necessary for business.

Link everything known to the internet (if you want to be an influencer). It’s simply not necessary for business.

Before I give you the alternative – I respect those willing to try the above and fail more than those not willing to try at all, ay?! Things you can leverage to stop the scroll AND provide value that leads to followers becoming customers:

  • Your humor
  • Your creativity
  • Your philosophy
  • Your consistency
  • Your normalcy
  • Your humanness (real life, in the mess, relatability).

When you consistently provide legit value (actionable, digestible steps that make your audiences life easier, better, more joyful, more fulfilling), they will literally ASK how they can work with you.

But it won’t happen over night. And it’s not easy.

Your social media code of conduct starts here -with these two topics/questions.

Make a list of your core categories that you talk about on social media.
What topics do you circle back to over and over and over again?
This is the basis of your brand and what it will become recognized for.

Then, make a list of: What are hard nos for your brand – no limits here.
Could be the way you post something, a topic you refuse to talk about, a way in which you absolutely under no circumstance with conduct your business and content?
