Something I’ve never talked about before: HIRING! There is not a rule book on this topic (like many areas of business). Thus, it can be an overwhelming thing to approach. That moment when you’re looking to transition from a soloprenuer to paying (and trusting) another human to help with your dream.
Now, I work with primarily entrepreneurs in their first 1-3 years. So how to hire isn’t a common convo. BUT…
I’ve had 1:1 biz clients who have hired three employees by the end of year of one, and others who have been in biz for five years, and are just beginning to pay a VA for help. Again, no rule book.
No matter your story, you’ll likely need to hire someone for a one off job here and there. One of my fav companies for these types of jobs is: UPWORK. This site is fantastic if you’re not ready for an assistant or full time employee but you need to offload a few tasks – check out UPWORK.
There are a few things to consider in order to make the hiring process easier for all parties involved.
▪️What areas you dislike + aren’t good at?
Ideally you hire people for things you don’t enjoy and/or aren’t good at. Get rid of these. Off load them to someone who does enjoy them or are better suited than you! Which is guaranteed if you’re a soloprenuer now.
▪️What tasks do you find yourself having to complete and thinking “omg someone else could totally be doing this. This doesn’t require ME.”?
These are likely repeatable tasks that require some kind of manual tasks or time from you. It can’t be automated. Someone has to do it, but it doesn’t need to be YOU.
▪️What is TIME intensive but does not require your skill/expertise?
Lastly, consider hiring from within (depending on the task). It can be great to pull from people who already align with your vision/mission. Either ask for referrals (say for an accountant or designer), or open it up to your humans (clients, audience etc).
And remember that people DO want to help you with your dream. That can be a hard thing to grasp. You don’t have to go at this alone forever.
