If you missed it, this visit to Ljubljana was round two for us. We knew our friend Matt would love this city, so we decided to start our road trip from Budapest here, in the quaint city of Ljubljana.
You’ll notice a significant difference between the photos from our first visit and this one. The weather was rainy, cloudy and cold. For us Pacificnorthwesterners the weather was no bother. The city is still adorable. And we happened to be there during winter break for the the university, which happens to house 50-60k students. So it was bare compared to our visit just over a month earlier.
Even so, the outside markets were standing strong.
We took Matt to the beauty that is Lake Bled. Because the clouds were hangin so low, we opted to not visit the castle. As the point of the castle is getting a view of the lake and mountains. Behind those clouds is a back drop of alpine mountains. The lake was beautiful none-the-less.
Like the lake situation, we didn’t get even a glimpse of the mountains this time around. See my first Ljubljana post for photos of pristine alpine mountains and blue skies.
We did however get to see the mintiest green rivers you can imagine. The color didn’t even make sense, but I wasn’t complaining. I could have sat and stared at that water for hours, if I wasn’t freezing.
I will say it one millions times over. Slovenia is the MOST underrated country as a whole in Europe if you want nature + European architecture and good food. The city of Ljubljana, the rolling green hills, and surrounding alpine region is just too good not to visit at some point. As mentioned in my previous Ljubljana post, the alpine region is only a one hour drive from Ljubljana. So it’s a very accessible day trip.
Although it was cold, the changing colors of the trees accompanied by the minty river was well worth the fall/winter timing.
After Ljubljana we drove north to Vienna Austria for one full day! We only have Vienna and Prague left fam! Then the travel blog-a-thon comes to a glorious end!
