Tackling the question of building an audience or building an offer as an entrepreneur.
Knowing where to spend your precious time when starting a business is difficult. Often, ironically paralyzing. Do you create an irresistible offer? Do you go all in on audience growth? Both?
My “not a mastermind” colleague asked some pretty eye-opening questions to our group a few months ago. The answers came from people who have had a presence online or in biz for 5-15+ years. Two consistent answers made me think of you, my people. We all answered that we enjoy creating > consuming content. From a personal standpoint, we don’t spend much time on social. We’re here for primarily business, and putting our content out into the world. This is something I encourage you to practice and embrace.
As @marcusfilly said “create > consume.” Something I encourage you do literally for eternity. This is how we’ve all established recognizable, profitable, and quality brands through online content (outside of having offers that WORK).
Secondly – we all clocked in at 30-80 hours per month between creating content, interacting, researching, and planning for social media. You read that right. I’m around 40 hours per month (likely more if I ACTUALLY timed it). Here’s the deal. That’s a shit load of time. And I am guessing, that if you’re just starting out, you’re overwhelmed. You feel like you too, need to spend 40-50 hours a month on social to keep up with content creation, trends, and so on.
When I started IG it was a single photo, and a caption. 15 second videos weren’t even a thing yet. So I spent MAYBE 10-20 hours a month. But most of that was interaction, not creating content. I spent most of my time working full time as a trainer and cheer coach, and BUILDING MY ACTUAL BUSINESS + OFFERS on the back end.
Know what you need to do NOW. Allot your time accordingly. You need an audience. But more than that, you need an offer that WORKS. So I have two questions for you:
▪️How much time do you spend on social or prepping content?
▪️Which do you feel is more important now?
Creating/refining your offer? Or building your social following? Or a % of both. Make your decisions accordingly.
