“Track your numbers” is an extremely broad piece of advice for any entrepreneur – be it online or in person. Though it’s broad, it remains solid advice. Let’s dive into what the frick it actually means for you, what it can do for you and why it matters.
A few things can begin to happen when we track numbers. We’ll get into what numbers I am referring to shortly.
As health and fitness professionals, we know the power of tracking metrics. The old saying holds truth – what we measure we can manage. That’s the premise of tracking your numbers. Plus, they can completely shift our perspective – often in the most needed ways.
1 | You deserve more credit than you give yourself.
More often than not, there is literally always more we an be doing, room to grow, gaps to fill. Therefore it’s easy to be left feeling unproductive, with a lack of wins and an always growing to do list. Tracking your numbers mitigates that feeling. Or has the potential to.
2 | Numbers give objective feedback + direction
Clarity. Numbers give us more clarity. There is still context to numbers. Ideally we learn why a given stat is what it is. But once we know that, we can choose actions to move the needle. Entrepreneurship can feel like an emotional rollercoaster. And numbers have no regard for those feelings. Which can be offensive to some, but grounding to most.
So what numbers can you be tracking in order to feel more grounded, informed and clear in your online health and fitness business?
In my FitsPRO Foundations course I do a training on both Profit and Loss and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Profit and loss is as simple as revenue generated through your biz, and biz expenses. This gives you your profit and loss. KPI’s can be quite literally anything.
You can track any metric that applies to your business model but you’ll likely only focus on 1-3 metrics that you’re truly trying to IMPROVE. We can’t move all the needles at once. What top 1-3 are essential for this season of business growth? Ask yourself that, and keep on keeping on.
