In fact, it is still one of the most powerful tools you can and should be using to grow your audience + your revenue.
Yes, social media is quicker, flashier, and your audience is likely there already. But you don’t own or control social media. Algorithms and terms change all the time. Leading people to your mailing list is one the best things you do to secure your audience within your biz.
There are full-on courses regarding email list building and marketing. This post will not make you an email marketing genius, but it will get you started.
Let us set the stage: You’re building ONE EMAIL LIST in order to have a group of humans who you email on a consistent basis with value related to what you either currently offer or plan to offer. OR a list of humans who opt in to get something free or the promise of a discount, but you do not email on a consistent basis. From your one list you can have segments, groups or tags that can further separate your main list into sections like waitlists, program enrollments, or interests.
First off, determine if you’re emailing on a schedule or not. If so, how often you’re going to contact your list – weekly, bi-weekly, monthly? Weekly newsletters are pretty standard. That’s 52 emails per year. You can do this!
Once you decide how often you’ll email your loyal humans, you can choose an approach to your email.
You are by no means limited to these ideas. Email marketing is only limited by your creativity. Get that straight. Use one of these, or come up with your own spin.
Weekly theme – Take this in any way you please. Weekly Fav’s, Weekly Tip, Weekly podcast episode delivered via email, Weekly reflections. Whatever makes sense for you.
Create a free resource – With this option, your humans are opting in to a freebie. Think downloadable PDF, or exclusive episode. Or you’re providing them with a discount once they opt in. We see this all time in online retail.
Create resource or the code, and then make sure your audience can sign up via email to receive it. This is a great way to build your list.
VIP access – Put simply, the only way to get this info, is to be on your list. My mailing list for instance is not based on VIP info. It is a weekly wrap of all my content and need to know info. But you could have content that you only deliver via your email list! No body wants to miss out.
Use this option to connect with and create an even more dedicated audience. Again, this option can be used on a consistent basis.
As stated, you are by no means limited to these approaches to building a mailing list. But they give you somewhere to START.
