Considerations To Make Before Posting On Instagram

Whether you’re just starting to grow your audience with Instagram, or five years in with an established following, these considerations are of value.

First off, I am not standing on the pulpit here. These apply just as much to me as anyone else. I am not worthy.

VERY IMPORTANT CONTEXT: If you’re aiming to use Instagram to build your brand awareness:

  1. Sharing space is important and encouraged; but we also want to be the content that is shared, not the person who is always sharing everyone else’s content.
  2. Let’s not build a brand based on hating other approaches or coaches.

While I do think it’s OK to state your stance on polarizing topics, your content and products should be good enough on their own – in the absence of bringing others down. Yes? Explore and expand the ways that you add value to your audience.

👉🏼Sharing a personal story adds value through vulnerability and relatability

👉🏼Giving tips and tricks provides immediate actionable steps for your audience to improve their life.

👉🏼Providing laughter, humor or joy is value in and of itself.Expand your definition of value.

Last I checked (two months ago), people spend 75% of their time on Instagram in stories. So being in stories is great. But not great for GROWTH – as those who follow you view your stories.

The feed and reels are going to be your focus if you want to grow and create viral content. You can’t please everyone and your whole caption can’t be disclaimers. As much as possible, bring your audience into the experience of being a responsible adult on this app. It sounds silly, but it’s undoubtedly a thing.

Not every piece of content is aimed at everyone. Encourage people to take what applies and discard the rest. That’s a freedom and it’s lovely. Kudos to you for being courageous enough to go for it – to try and find your voice, and share your passion. Because most won’t.

Keep going. Every piece of content is on opportunity for feedback and data collection.
