Anecdotally speaking, Instagram is far less predictable than it used to be. Meaning, back in 2015 when you created “x” piece of content at “y” time of day, you had a fair chance of knowing how that piece of content would perform – how many likes and comments it would get. Gone are those days.
Now, we throw spaghetti at the wall with a blindfold on and hope something sticks.
I am being dramatic of course. But having been on the app for nearly seven years, and having helped hundreds of students use Instagram to grow their brands and businesses through my FitsPRO Foundations and Instagram 101 courses, I just know the struggle all too well. And it really can feel that spaghetti analogy.
So, if that’s you, WELCOME TO THE CLUB.
I suggest you do this:
When a piece of content that you thought would land, or took a lot of time to create, TANKS, try one of these:
1️⃣ Repurpose it – make it a blog or email to your list. Give her life elsewhere.
2️⃣ Take the topic and present it in a different way – maybe it was a graphic? Make a different graphic or use video? Same caption, different hook maybe?
3️⃣ Don’t be afraid to tell your audience! “Hey you humans! This took x hours to make/it’s real valuable – go save it, don’t sleep on the caption. It’s tanking, and she deserves better”
But also just know that it happens. And we’re all in this together.
Remember that every piece of content is a chance for feedback and also practice for YOU – to hone your voice, your messaging, your content creation skills. You’re not ONLY only there for likes. You’re there for this entire process. Attempt to embrace that perspective shift. And know that quitting won’t get you where you want to go. Keep going.
