How New Coaches Think They Need To Program with Annie Miller

Writing an exercise program can be an overwhelming task. And I am convinced that part of this overwhelm is the self-imposed expectation for new fitness coaches to do THE MOST. Take a breath. Do less.

Most coaches are out here thinking they need to write a brand new program from scratch for every client on a monthly or even weekly basis. That’s INSANE if you ask me. It’s a time expensive way to conduct your coaching service, and frankly, it’s just not necessary to get your clients their desired result.

I want you to entertain the power and gains to be made in SMALL, INTENTIONAL adjustments to programming. And the fact that many of your clients will desire similar things. That should, in theory, make your life and programming system easier.

NO more new tempo, new exercise selection, new exercise order, new warm up, new new every month.

Programming TRUTHs:

“Is it okay if I repeat parts of a program from one clients program to another?”

“What if two clients need very similar programming…am I not delivering on ‘individualized’ if I don’t come up with two completely different programs?”

Those are questions I’ve received for YEARS. More so since working with coaches.

My answers:

1️⃣ The more you program, the more room for efficiency you’ll see.

👉You’ll find a superset or warm up that works really well for a given goal/stimulus. You’ll find progressions that just make sense. You’ll see what “your people” tend to need.

2️⃣ The more you program, you’ll begin to see the use/need for a “skeleton” for given types of goals or starting points.Most clients work with a four day split?

👉Make a skeleton base to work off of. Still individualized but not wasting unnecessary time starting from square one every time.

So do what makes the most sense for you and the client. Build systems that make your life easier while still providing programming that fits the clients needs/wants.
